The International Advisory Committee of the Memory of the World International Programme will hold its 9th meeting from Wednesday 29 July to Friday 31 July 2009 at the Accra Beach Hotel, Barbados.

The International Advisory Committee (IAC) is appointed by the Director-General of UNESCO to guide the planning and implementation of the Memory of the World Programme as a whole.

The main purpose of the 9th Meeting of the International Advisory Committee will be to review the progress achieved by the Memory of the World Programme during the last biennium and make recommendations to the Director-General concerning the award of the Jikji Prize and the inscription of documentary heritage on the Memory of the World Register, as well as advise on raising funds for the Programme.

The 9th IAC will receive reports from the Sub-Committees on marketing, technology and the register. It will also continue its work of making recommendations on the nomination proposals. There are currently more than fifty proposals under active consideration fifteen of which are from the Latin America and the Caribbean region.The Director General must approve these recommendations before the inscriptions may be publicly announced.
